Nick Mellor has been Technical Director of the Lift and Escalator Industry Association (LEIA) since 2012 and has been in the lift industry for 22 years. He was in the inaugural cohort on the MSc in Lift Engineering from the (now) University of Northampton from which he graduated in 2002. He is now an Associate Lecturer on the MSc and visiting fellow at the University of Northampton. Nick sits on BSI’s MHE/4 lifts and hoist committee where he has been involved with a code of practice for safe working on lifting platforms. He is a BSI delegate to the European (CEN) working group developing a standard for “slow speed lifts” and he is also on both the European (CEN) and International (ISO) working groups looking at firefighters lifts and lifts for evacuation of persons including persons with disabilities from buildings. Nick holds a BSc(Eng) from Imperial College, London and an MBA from Brunel University/ Henley Management College.
